This page provides detailed information about how to apply, what the application process is, eligibility requirements, and what is required after selection.
Application and Selection
- Prospective students apply during the application periods, which are indicated further below. Students apply to the whole programme and make their preferences related to the track(s) they wish to be enrolled.
- Application to Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Imaging: Applications for EMJM in Imaging are done via the Consortium portal. Apply to the EMJM in Imaging programme - application will stay open until 5 January 2025 at 13:00 UTC (14:00 CET or 15:00 EET).
- Scholarship: Students can apply for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship in the same portal during their application to the EMJM in Imaging.
- Eligible applications are shortlisted after an eligibility check made by partner universities in the Consortium.
- Application to Politecnico di Milano: The applicants who are shortlisted also need to apply to Politecnico di Milano before 10th February 2025 to ensure that they are eligible for POLIMI admission. These applicants will be contacted directly via email. Otherwise, their application to EMJM in Imaging will not be valid.
- The Selection Committee (composed of a representative of each Partner university and the coordinator) performs the evaluation of the shortlisted. This selection is done according to the selection criteria listed below.
- From the resulting ranking, the Selection Committee defines the Main List, the Reserve List, and the Non-Selected List of students. The lists are then sent to the European Commission for approval.
- Students are notified with the official letters of admission by e-mail including all necessary information for starting their VISA application.
- The selected students sign a student agreement to confirm their decision to study in the EMJM in Imaging programme at the beginning of the next academic year.
- Students of the Reserve List are offered to join the master as self-funded students (i.e., selected students without Erasmus Mundus scholarship).
- After the final list of the selected students is approved by the EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) from the European Commission, the students need to be registered at the universities according to the assigned tracks.
Eligibility Requirements
Prospective students should satisfy the eligibility requirements of the tracks of their application. The full list of eligibility requirements will be announced here after the Consortium Partnership Agreement has been agreed upon.
Basic degree requirements
A bachelor's degree in information and communication technologies, computer or electrical engineering, or in a related field with
- At least 30 ECTS in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, including courses in probability theory and statistics and linear algebra, and
- 60 ECTS in Computer Engineering, or equivalent, including a course in object-oriented programming and one of the following two courses: databases or signal and image processing.

English language requirements
- TOEFL: CBT -210 / IBT – 78 / PBT- 547/ NEW! TOEFL ITP® Plus for China - 543, new TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition English certificate.
- IELTS Academic - 6.
- CAMBRIDGE: Proficiency (CPE) – Pass at grade C / Advanced (CAE)– Pass at grade C
- ENGLISH AS BACHELOR MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: Students who can prove their language skills without a language test if you have completed an upper secondary degree or a university degree with English as the language of instruction in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. The language in which your degree was taught must be stated on your degree certificate, the official transcript of records, diploma supplement or other official document issued by the awarding institution. An automatic ranking is built based on the evaluators’ assessment.
Please ensure that the provided language test scores are valid within the application period. Expired language test scores are not accepted as proof of language proficiency in English. If your scores do not fulfil the minimum score requirements, your application will not be processed further.
Only the language tests listed above are accepted. Any other language proofs or statements provided by a university or other institution will not be accepted. Completion of a B.Sc. degree or other previous studies in English in countries other than those mentioned above does not grant exemption from the language test requirements.

Selection Criteria
The Evaluation criteria for students applying to the master programme are the following:
- Academic Excellence and CV
- Motivation letter
- Recommendation Letters
For each criterion, a numerical grade is given.
The final grade (out of 100) is calculated as a weighted sum of the grades for each criterion. The students are ranked according to the final grade.
Key dates
The application portal opens on the 20th of November 2024.
- Application period for EMJM in Imaging: 20th November 2024 to 5th January 2025
- Announcement of selection results: April 2025, students are informed, via e-mail, about the selection results.
- Deadline for the study place acceptance: The selected students need to accept the offers within two weeks after the selection result has been communicated.
- The reserve list: In April/May, students on the reserve list will be informed about possible acceptance to the program. Then, students on the reserve list who have been offered a place in the program need to confirm that offer, within two weeks after they received the offer.
- Completion of documents: Students with incomplete degree must send supplementary documentation to the administrative offices around Septebmer 2025, the definite date will be communicated later with accepted students.
- Enrolment: Will start mid September, definite date will be communicated later with accepted students.
How to Apply
Prospective students need to apply to the EMJM consortium within the application period with the required documents. The application to the EMJM consortium is made using the online portal, see the link further below. Emails to people from partner institutions will be disregarded.
As described above, shortlisted students will also be invited separately to apply to Politecnico di Milano. During the initial application phase (i.e., 20 November-5 January) there is no need to apply to Politecnico di Milano. Information regarding this step will be communicated to the students after the initial shortlisting is completed.
Application fees
There is no application fee required to apply to the EMJM consortium. However, please note that application fees may be required by the respective universities.
Scholarships
As mentioned above, prospective students can apply for scholarship at the same time in their application. You can choose to be processed as a self-funding candidate or not, in the application portal.
Geographical balance will be taken into account, i.e. no more than 10% of the total number of scholarships awarded during project implementation should be awarded to candidates from the same nationality.
Students who have already benefitted from other EMJM scholarship cannot apply for the scholarship position.
Apply to the EMJM in Imaging programme
